I think Mats would be great in a Canadiens uniform. Put your team loyalties
aside. The Leafs are going nowhere for the next few seasons, and as a UFA at
37 there are only a few teams which can afford Sundin and still give him a
decent shot at winning a Cup (maybe Denver, for a Forsberg-Sakic-Foote
reunion?).

Mats is not obligated to return to the Leafs. That being said, he should
have agreed to waive the no-trade clause last spring so the Leafs could get
something back for him. Wherever he signs this summer, it should only be for
1 year at a time, as players over 35 who retire while still under contract
are still part of their team's salary cap. Joe Sakic has been playing
year-to-year for several years now, so he doesn't "screw" the Avalanche
should he decide to retire while still having a year or more on a contract.

As for salary, despite his production, at 37 Mats Sundin should be a $3.5 to
$4M player, no more. He has enough money, and taking a little less at this
age lets a team free up a little more money to pay somebody else. As a
Canadiens fan I'd love to see him in Montreal, but if he decides to sign
elsewhere, that's his right. Johnny Damon left the Red Sox for the Yankees.
Bobby Rayburn left the Braves for the Giants. Sure, they got booed, but it
was their right to leave. The Red Sox won another World Series without
Damon; there's a chance (cough, cough) that the Leafs could win a Cup
without Sundin.

It's all about player choice. Tough as it sounds, they owe the fans nothing.

Umm, not sure if you're understanding me there - that's the problem with
usenet sometimes, I guess. :)

I'm a Habs fan. Huge one. I was just saying that the last thing I want to
see is Sundin in a Canadiens jersey (although the heart attacks it would
give leafs nation might be amusing). Sundin is a player who's recently been
rarely effective in any situation except the last 5-7 minutes of the game,
and that effectiveness will only start to decrease with his age. I think it
would be a waste of a roster spot for Montreal.

Why is it that when someone doesn't agree with your childishness, it is they
who are "sook and bawling"?

I agree with you here. I hope Ryder becomes the Habs worse enemy. Now,
where do I get a number 73 Bruins jersey?

to christopher...........

as usual you wiggle and waggle to backtrack on your
blabbering.......in order to take the position that you have taken you
spew that sundin is only effective in the last 5-7 minutes of a
game.......i dont know where you get this assumption from...but i
assert that the games are mostly won and lost in the last 5-7 minutes
of the game and if your dribble is true about this time peiod then i
see it as a definite benefit for the habs or any other team...... i
also am not surprised to note that you seem to,yet again, fail to see
the signifigance of a player such as sundin and his asset to a team
like the habs with no size...sundin has proven his stature and doesnt
cower from the physical game, his size and strength on the puck will
only help the miniscule front lines of the habs...

your last post in this group was to wish for a delapitating illness
to inflict itself on a professional athlete and to finish his
career.......you sick dratsab......and in this post you yet again show
that you have no idea what the game or the players of the game bring
to it as a whole...go back to your petty vendetta's and foul hopes for
players lives and careers.....you know nothing but your tunnelled
visioned perception of the fastest game on ice

now go crawl back under the rock you came from
